الملخص

The aim of this study was to examine phytochemical analysis and to assess potential antimicrobial activity of ethanolic crude extract from bark of Bauhinia rufescens. Agar well diffusion  method was  employed  to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Bauhinia rufescens plant extract against four bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and two fangi Candida albcans and  Aspergillus niger. The results of phytochemical composition showed that saponins, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins and alkaloids were detected in the Bauhinia rufescens bark ethanolic extract. The antibacterial activity showed inhibitory effect against Bacillus subtilis (7), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (7) and  Escherichia coli (11) compare with standard dugs Tetracycline (12), Metronidazole (8), Tetracycline (4), Metronidazole (18), Tetracycline (3) and Metronidazole (24) respectively at concentration100 mg/mL and was no activity against Staphylococcus aureus and two types of fungi Candida albcans and Aspergillus niger. In conclusion, the study showed that the Bauhinia rufescens bark extract is a potential source of natural antibacterial, and justify its uses in folkloric medicines.
